How to Grow, Change and Age...

Posted

Peter Drucker wrote that even personal experiences that taught him how to grow, to change, and to age--without becoming a prisoner of the past. In a nutshell, those learnings were:

  1. Strive for perfection, even though it will always elude you;
  2. ... even if only God notices;
  3. Every three  or four  years pick a new subject to study;
  4. Every year, review the work done in the preceding year
    - Things done well
    - Things tried to do well but should have done better
    - Things done poorly, and
    - Things done that simply should not have been done
    and then set priorities for the coming year;
  5. Decide what you need to do to be effective in any new assignment;
  6. Keep a decision log
    - What decisions made
    - Why decision made, and
    - What results expected from the decision.
    Then review it yearly, especially comparing actual results with expected; and
  7. Ask yourself what you want to be remembered for.

With a few caveats such as the need to strive for perfection, but not be a perfectionist, I think these ideas are magnificent.

I'm about to put into place the idea of keeping a decision log, and (surprise surprise) I'll use MindManager as my means of recording.

Let me know if any of you already practice this, or any other, concept.  Thanks.
