Dealing with Complex Problems

Posted

Three issues collided on my desk today, well - metaphorically speaking.

  • My Divisional Commander sent a memo out attaching a statement from a group of evangelicals calling for a return to certain traditions of the church. At the end of the statement they commented that it was the product of 7 months work by 300 people using email to discuss.
  • I started a wiki trial simply to try and learn a little about it.
  • Michael Sampson referred to a methodology for complex problems that makes a lot of sense.
I can't imagine the issues that the authors of the above statement must have had using emails to discuss a very complex issue. Using Dave Pollard's methodology along with, say, a wiki, would certainly make things simpler.

Most complex issues we deal with at church need to be discussed with many people, most of whom live busy lives (they're volunteers) outside the church. Is it time to implement such a methodology? Could it be used to even engage the whole congregation?

Soooo many questions...
